This miniature pillar formed part of the quarter-scale miniature of Dracula’s Castle used in the 1992 Gothic Horror Film directed by Francis Ford Coppola. The 5x0.9” resin pillar is intricately painted in brown & black to imitate metal erosion & has adhesive remnants on it’s base where it would have been attached to the model castle. On the other end of the pillar is a joint where it would have attached to one of the Castle’s support plinths which were small in reality but looked gargantuan on screen. All of the visual effects in this Film were achieved without using CGI; & were instead created using techniques from the early history of cinema. These miniature pillars would have helped to create forced perspectives; an optical illusion used in film production to make an object appear larger or smaller than it actually is. The pillar comes mounted inside a framed display with two corresponding stills & a descriptive plaque (16x22”). Accompanies Provenance, having been originally sourced from a Member of the Set Crew.
